How to remove uninstalled games from your Steam library

After uninstalling a game on Steam, it usually remains in your library. You can still see it along with all of your installed games. This isn’t ideal as many Steam users only want to have the games they own and have installed appear in their library.

There are two ways you can remove uninstalled games from your Steam library. You can hide them from your library or permanently remove them. Follow the steps below to hide or remove an uninstalled game from your Steam library.

Uninstalled games on Steam

As explained above, uninstalled games on Steam remain in your library, and there are two ways to tell that a game has been uninstalled. The first is that the game will appear with a download/install icon at the bottom corner. And when you click on the game, it will say ‘Install,’ whereas your installed games will have an option to ‘Play’ when you click on them.

Another way an uninstalled game might appear in your Steam library is that it will be greyed out. When this happens, you cannot hide the game as Steam won’t allow you to click on it. The only way to remove a greyed-out game is to delete it permanently.

Hiding vs. removing games

The difference between these two options is that hiding a game is reversible. Instead of completely deleting the game, this option makes the game hidden from the standard library. You can unhide the game if you change your mind and reinstall it. This is ideal if you think you may want to reinstall the game again in the future. Essentially, this method takes the game out of sight while allowing access to it in case you need it.

As the name suggests, removing the game will permanently delete it. This means it won’t appear in your Steam library, and there will be no way of getting it back once it has been removed. You previously had to contact Steam support to remove a game from your library. The process is much simpler and faster now as you can do this yourself. If you decide to remove the game, please be aware that there is no way to get it back without repurchasing.
