How to remove a person’s games from your Steam library after removing them from family sharing

When you remove someone from Family Share on Steam, you may also want to stop sharing games with them. However, removing someone from Family Share doesn’t mean Steam will remove their games. So this guide will show you how to remove games from your Steam library after removing someone from Family Share.

There are two possible ways of removing games that belong to someone you removed from Family Ahare. The first method is to hide their games from your library. A more permanent solution is to delete everything in your Steam folder on your computer except the ‘Steam.exe’ and ‘SteamApps’ folders. However, it’s important to note that if you are still Family Sharing with other people, all of their games will also be removed from your library. The table below briefly explains how to hide or delete games.

What is Steam family sharing?

Family Sharing is an excellent feature in Steam that allows you to share your games with family or friends. And you can play each other’s games while still having your own progress and achievements. That is a great way to save on buying games, as you can share your games with people with similar gaming interests. Once you have authorized someone to family share with you, they will have access to all your games. Likewise, you will also have access to their library to download and play the games they have without paying for them.

Before enabling Family Sharing on Steam, you must have Steam Guard enabled. You can do that in Steam’s settings. Then you can enable Family Sharing, where you can authorize specific computers and users to share your games. However, there is a limit to how many devices and users you can approve to Family Share. You can authorize Family Sharing on up to 10 devices and for up to 5 accounts. Each user can access your game library on any of your authorized computers.

One possible issue with Steam Family Sharing is that only one person can play a game at a time, limiting your friend’s ability to play your game. If you want to play one of your games that your friend is playing simultaneously, your friend will get a notification to either purchase the game for themselves or to quit the game.

Another possible issue is that if you remove someone from Family Sharing, their games will still appear in your library, although you won’t have access to them. So the next section of this guide demonstrates some possible solutions to that problem.

How to remove the person’s games

As mentioned previously, there are two ways you can remove the games belonging to someone you have removed from Family Sharing. The first method is to hide the games from your library. This method won’t completely remove the games from your library, but you will have to search to find them.

Hide the games

  1. Log in to your Steam account.

Using your credentials, log in to your Steam account.

2. Go to ‘Library.’

Select’ Library’ from the options at the top of the page.

3. Right-click on the game.

Find the game you want to hide and right-click on it. For this demonstration, I’ll be hiding the Sven co-op game.

4. Select ‘Manage.’

Right-click on the game, and click on ‘Manage’ from the small drop-down list.

5. Select ‘Hide this game.’

From the following drop-down list, select ‘Hide this game.’ The game will be hidden from your library once you refresh Steam.

Delete everything in the ‘Steam’ folder

  1. Open the (C:) drive on your computer.

Open up your files from the small file icon in your taskbar. Then under ‘This PC, ‘ click on your (C:) drive.

2. Go to ‘Program Files (x86).’

Double click on ‘Program Files (x86).’

3. Click on the ‘Steam’ folder.

You’ll be directed to more folders. Go to the ‘Steam’ folder.

4. Delete everything in the folder except ‘steam.exe’ and the ‘steamapps’ folder.

Finally, delete everything in this folder except for ‘steam.exe’ and the ‘steamapps’ folder, as shown in the screenshots above. When you restart Steam, the games that belong to the person you removed from family sharing will be removed.

Conclusion

It can be frustrating when you see games in your Steam library that belong to someone you have removed from Family Share. But the only solutions are to hide the games from your library or delete everything in your Steam folder on your computer. That will remove the games, but it will also remove the games of any other people you are Family Sharing with. These methods have been demonstrated in this blog post, so you can decide which way would be most beneficial for you.
